Long volunteer placements (minimum 6 months) are also offered to TEFL-qualified English teachers.
Sample 3 Week Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Fort Dauphin. Time to settle into your home stay accommodation with a local Malagasy family.
Day 2
Detailed orientation about Madagascar, the Anosy region, Fort Dauphin and local customs as well as a briefing
of the English teaching activities you will be working on during your time here. You also have a chance to explore the town and its beautiful beaches.
Day 3
A visit to Nahampoana Reserve allows you to get up close with several species of lemur including sifakas and ring tails.
Days 4-6
Your English teaching activities begin. Volunteers initially act as classroom assistants,
observing Azafady's permanent English teaching coordinator during two or three sessions for middle school teachers and high
school Baccalaureate students. You start lesson planning and then begin to lead your own classes with supervision and support from the coordinator.
Day 7-8
Time to relax. Perhaps try surfing, sample delicious seafood at a beach restaurant, or enjoy a trip to the local market.
Days 9-13
These days are spent teaching English to unemployed adults and primary school children as part of special English
clubs set up to boost Project Mampianatra's core activities while you are in Madagascar. You are supervised and supported by Azafady's permanent
English teaching coordinator. Unemployed adults are a key group within Fort Dauphin who are very keen to learn English. Activities with primary
school children focus on English teaching through fun interactive games. You also continue to support the project coordinator in delivering
sessions for middle school teachers and high school Baccalaureate students.
Days 14-15
Time to relax. Perhaps visit some nearby waterfalls for a picnic, chill at the beach, or check out the town's nightlife.
