Summary
Azafady run a long-term specialist volunteer programme for TEFL qualified
English teachers, who want to work in one of the world's most beautiful
biodiversity hot spots, whilst really making a difference to the communities
who live there. Classes are run for adults of all ages, the majority
of whom are 16-25 years old, and enter at beginners level. Whilst some
students do have jobs, many are unemployed and we are aiming to assist
these people in learning a new skill which will either support them
in their work or help them to find a job.
In October 2008 we began a new collaboration with the Fort Dauphin chamber of commerce, teaching a three month intensive course of business English to chauffeurs, restauranteurs and hotel staff. This looks set to continue into 2009 and so future teachers may find themselves working in either the Azafady school, the Chamber of Commerce school or both.
