sustainably in order to reduce poverty and conserve biodiversity in south east Madagascar.
Project Miaro
Community Afforestation and Institutional Capacity Building
Azafady is working with communities bordering the new protected areas of Tsitongambarika and Ambatoantsignana
to conserve these unique biodiverse habitats. This project focuses on building the capacity of local forest management
institutions and supporting community conservation initiatives including tree planting activities.
Past / Completed Projects
Project Volyhazo
Community Conservation
Azafady worked with 7 communities bordering the new protected areas of Tsitongambarika and Ambatoantsignana to provide alternatives that reduce dependence on forest resources.
Project Telopoloambilany
In-Situ Conservation of Critically Endangered Species
Azafady is working on a direct species intervention in the Magnafiafy littoral forest, reintroducing over 5,000 seedlings of the
critically endangered and endemic Dypsis saintelucei palm in their native habitat in optimum growing conditions. This project
also supports the conservation of a further two critically endangered and endemic species: the Beccariophoenix madagascariensis palm
and the Phelsuma antanosy gecko.
Project Moringa
Promotion of Moringa oleifera
Azafady is working with communities bordering the new protected areas of Tsitongambarika and Ambatoantsignana to provide
alternatives that reduce dependence on forest resources. This project focuses on promoting Moringa oleifera, an extremely
hardy agro-forestry species with high nutritional value.
Project Fagnavotsy
Promotion of fuel-efficient stoves and Moringa oleifera
Azafady is working with the community of Mahialambo to provide alternatives that reduce dependence on forest resources. This project
focuses on promoting fuel-efficient stoves as well as Moringa oleifera, an extremely hardy and nutritious agro-forestry species.
